Origins of the word Populus

S P Q R Senatus Populus Que Romanus
The Latin phrase denoting the “Senators and the People of Rome”, has its roots in the how the government was structured in the ancient Roman Republic. In the republic, the populus, that is, the people) was sovereign, so was the combination of the senators and the people they represent. However, the Senate alone was not. The two elements together formed what is to become the basis of a modern civilized democratic society

Today, corporations have replaced the People’s role in the government and the People now have an avenue to wrest that power back, to be a band of brothers silent no more!
